The 2021 Lands Edge Pinot Noir leads with aromas of red and black cherry, pomegranate, and dried rose petal. The layered flavors of dark berries, plum and licorice lead to a mid-palate with elegant and polished texture. The wine ends with a lingering mocha and mineral finish.
Reviews:
- Wine Enthusiast: Thick, tannic and herbal, this is an earthy and ethereal wine from the coast, aromatic in rose petal and forest floor. A notable backbone of acidity keeps it fresh and energetic in the glass amid a savory landscape of salty, silky structure.
Producer Information
Hartford Family Winery is a wine producer located in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County established in 1994 by Jenny and Don Hartford. It works with growers from a wide number of AVAs and has gained a reputation as one of Sonoma's premier producers for top quality Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Zinfandel. Single vineyard, limited volume releases are a speciality. Around 25 different bottlings have been released in recent vintages. Many of these sites are in cooler, higher sites, often on difficult terrain. The company follows the dictum of "character through adversity", applying it to grapes and vineyards as well as people. Around 15 different Pinot Noirs are made. Fruit for these is sourced from not just the Russian River Valley, but also the Sonma Coast, Green Valley, Carneros, Anderson Valley and Marin appellations, as well as from Oregon. Single vineyard Chardonnay comes from the Sonoma Coast and the Russian River Valley. The latter is the source of the single vineyard Zinfandels from 80 to 100-year-old vines. The vineyards are often small and low-yielding, and the wines are only available on allocation There may be less than 100 cases each of the Hartford Court Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and the Old Vine Zinfandels are similarly scarce. In addition to the single vineyard wines a Russian River Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Zinfandel are made each year. Volumes are sufficient for these wines to turn up on top restaurant lists.
