Sonatas by the violin virtuoso Piani! Giovanni Antonio Piani (1678-176) was born in Naples in 1678, the son of Pietro Giacomo Piani, a Bolognese musician and court trumpet player of Naples. He learned to play the violin at the Conservatory and quickly rose to prominence, becoming very active in Paris and Vienna. His Violin Sonata (his only surviving musical work), composed in a style somewhere between Italian and French and published in Paris in 1712, is performed by Lavirinto Armonico with the utmost care to faithfully interpret the dynamics and articulations as directed by the composer.
