Description:
A collection of ensemble works by one of the youngest composers in the KAIROS label's catalog, Finnish composer Sebastian Hiri, born in 1990. He is a remarkable composer who has quickly developed an international reputation, winning some of the most prestigious awards for young composers, including the Toru Takemitsu Composition Award in 2015, the International Rostrum of Composers in the "Composer under 30" category in 2017, and the Gaudeamus Award in 2018. Hili's music is characterized by intricately woven textures and nuanced sonorities, long spans of process, and a nose for non-musical topics. The main piece, "confusion / divergence," is for a small ensemble consisting of guitar, flute, percussion, harp, and cello. Various tools and techniques are used to make every instrument sound like something else, such as using a credit card as a pick to make a harp or cello sound like a guitar, or rubbing a guitar string to make it sound like a flute's breath sound.
